From October 15 to 18, dive professionals, instructors, specialists and companies will meet at the Cozumel Museum to exchange ideas, explore developments in the industry and discuss the future of diving. Safety, training and marine conservation will feature prominently in this second edition.
Cozumel is preparing for four days devoted to the diving community. The Mexican island will host the second International Diving Congress, bringing together people from different parts of the underwater industry.
The museum will welcome instructors, dive centre representatives, industry professionals, specialists and businesses. The programme includes talks, workshops, training activities and opportunities to share experiences.
The gathering comes at a time when operational safety, reef protection and the evolution of professional training are regular topics of discussion across the industry.
For Cozumel, where the sea is central to the destination’s identity, hosting the congress is also an opportunity to highlight diving’s importance to the local economy and community.
Diving safety among the main topics
One of the notable participants is Divers Alert Network (DAN), the international organisation specialising in dive safety and diving medicine.
According to DAN, the opening day on October 15 will focus on seminars about accident prevention and safety, led by specialists in those areas.
Training activities are also planned, including a session related to DAN Oxygen Provider certification, which covers emergency oxygen administration.

DAN’s presence is particularly relevant to instructors, guides and dive operators. Safety involves more than the equipment divers take underwater. It also depends on staff preparation, emergency procedures and the ability to respond when something goes wrong.
Professional gatherings create opportunities to share experiences and knowledge that can help improve these practices, especially in a field where continuing education matters.
A place for the industry to connect
Alongside the educational programme, the congress will bring together companies, brands and professionals from across the diving sector.
Equipment manufacturers and distributors, training centres, tourism operators and instructors face many of the same challenges, even if their day-to-day work is different.
Meetings like this allow participants to discover technologies, learn about initiatives in other destinations and build relationships with organisations working in different markets.
For the Latin American diving industry, regional opportunities to exchange knowledge are especially valuable. Environmental conditions, tourism markets and training needs vary from place to place, but experiences from one destination can still be useful elsewhere.
The event also includes presentations by local and international specialists and professional development activities, according to DAN and the organisers.
Cozumel and the importance of protecting its reefs
Marine conservation is another focus of this year’s congress.
Cozumel is internationally known for its dive sites and coral reef ecosystems, which attract visitors from around the world. That natural wealth is also a vital part of the island’s tourism economy.

Reef protection, care for marine species and responsible diving are increasingly important conversations for destinations that depend on nature-based tourism.
The congress is expected to cover conservation, marine science and the protection of underwater life.
For dive centres and professionals, those conversations offer a chance to hear about environmental initiatives and consider the role of divers in caring for the ecosystems they visit every day.
Four days at the Cozumel Museum
The 2026 International Diving Congress will take place from Thursday, October 15 to Sunday, October 18 at the Cozumel Museum, 321 Rafael E. Melgar Avenue, in the island’s centre.
Announced activities include seminars, presentations, workshops, specialist sessions and professional networking.
Published schedules differ: DAN lists sessions from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., while the Quintana Roo tourism calendar and registration platform give 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors should confirm individual session times with the organiser.
Further information and registration details are available through Eventbrite and the official programme.
Sharing experiences and looking ahead
Diving brings together people with different interests: those who teach, those who research, those who work in tourism, those who develop equipment and those dedicated to protecting the ocean.
Despite their different roles, they are all part of an industry that relies on safe operations and healthy marine environments.
The Cozumel congress aims to bring these perspectives together over four days of learning and exchange.
Beyond the talks and presentations, its appeal lies in the chance to meet colleagues, share knowledge and strengthen a community connected by the ocean.
